Robin Henschel

Robin Henschel is a Brookline potter and sculptor. She is a co-founder and current president of Feet of Clay Pottery in Brookline Village. A 1974 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art, her work has primarily been sold directly to private collectors but has also been featured at the Upstairs at Johnson's Gallery (Newbury Street, Boston, February 2001), Clever Hand Gallery (Wellesley, MA), Whippoorwill Crafts (Prudential Center, Boston) and is on permanent exhibit at the Brookline Public Library, main branch.

Ms. Henschel refers to her work as functional sculpture, whether a dragon steaming atop a soup tureen, a fungus-covered tree which serves as an outdoor fountain, or a planter incorporating faces or fish. She looks for ways to use clay to do the things that "only clay can do"--particularly to reflect the textures of the natural world. She is particularly inspired by natural scapes— leaves floating in a pond, newts by the bank, fungus on a stump--as well as by mythology and animal forms and personalities. Her work has been influenced by ancient Japanese Jomon and Peruvian Moche pottery.

Ms. Henschel teaches classes in wheel-throwing and hand-building at Feet of Clay. Her current projects include a near to life-size wild boar garden sculpture, a combination wall sconce/face planter and a series of dragon candleholders. She is married and the mother of three sons.
